Grace and Truth as One

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

To see Jesus was to see the Father. To see Jesus was to see grace and truth in perfect harmony. Why was this so important? Because in God grace and truth exist in perfect harmony moment by moment. Grace and truth are in the very DNA of God’s nature and they were in Jesus fully.

Grace is what God is actively willing to give to those He loves. Grace is God giving to us what He demands of us. Grace is the source of all life. Life is never earned, it is freely received by grace from God.

Truth is what God actively demands of mankind. Truth is what God expects as the fruit of His grace given to mankind. Grace only demands back from mankind grace’s own reflection and the release of grace’s own fruit. Grace given and received makes the demand possible for us.

In seeing Jesus we see perfectly the grace God has willingly to given to mankind since before the foundation of the world. In Jesus we see the true way that grace should be truthfully reflected and released to others by humanity. In Jesus we see God’s willingness toward us and God’s demand of us.

This is why the Apostle Paul says in I Corinthians 10:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. Only God’s grace received, reflected and released that can satisfy God’s holiness. Only Jesus could satisfy God’s willingness and God’s desire for mankind.

This is why there is only one way, truth and life that can bring us back to the Father. Jesus is the perfect giving, reflection and releasing of God’s grace and truth. Only He can bring any man back to the Father because He is both what God gives to us and demands of us.

Christianity is often accused of being an exclusive, proud faith. It is not. It is a faith which knows that grace and truth are both needed and only in Jesus have they ever arrived on earth in fullness in the man Jesus.

When we present Christianity as anything other than Jesus we will always make Christianity seem exclusive and proud. Speak of Jesus graciously and truthfully and you speak with the needed balance of grace and truth. Abide in Jesus moment by moment and you, too, will begin to be one with grace and truth.

As you abide in Him He will be formed in you until there is the peace that only grace and truth in harmony can produce. This peace passes all understanding because it is more than peace of mind. It is the peace of a perfect person—Jesus the Christ.

Never see grace and truth as two. They are one and they only exist as one in one Person—Jesus. This why Jesus says in John 15 “…without Me you can do nothing.”

Without Him we have neither the grace nor the truth to be truly human as God demands. Grace and truth are one in Jesus and we, too, are one with God by grace and truth in Christ. Praise God for grace and truth in Him!
