Death and Life
Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2: 15-17
The creation was and is so beautiful except for death. Ugly are the death of love, the death of hope, the death of trust, the death of bodies. So beautiful the creation, if it were not for death.
Against the background of creation’s beauty death continues on as our ugly, relentless enemy. Can death be stopped and life be restored?
Suddenly Jesus steps into the world to confront and destroy death. In Him love, trust and hope live until death and beyond. He lives, loves and trusts without stopping. He rises from death and calls us to follow Him and defeat death as we live in Him. He invites into His resurrection as our own resurrection.
Our life is hidden in Him and He is our life. Death cannot separate us from His love.
Finally in Jesus there is life that matches the beauty of the rest of Creation. That beautiful life is Jesus and He abides in all who believe.
See Him and rejoice. Live in Him and enjoy now the victory over death.
"Death is swallowed up in victory."
"O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?"
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 15: 54-57
