THE HOLY SPIRIT - Perfect Inspiration

Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. Romans 8: 9b

For many years I could not clearly describe why the Holy Spirit was in my life.  That was tragic and my spiritual formation was impacted for years by not understanding the work of God’s Spirit in my life.

As usual, Oswald Chambers came to my rescue with a thought that went something like this…

The Holy Spirit’s work is to make true in us everything Jesus is for us. 

This simple statement made so much sense to me that I began to realize that in the Holy Spirit I truly did have the perfect support and inspiration of God to experience everything Jesus said He could produce in a human life.   The entire Christian life Jesus described in the Gospels is within my reach because of the Spirit of Christ in me.

This growing conviction led me to begin working with new believers teaching them to affirm  “I lack nothing to be the person God intends for me to be for His glory.”   I also teach new believers to say  “He who has Jesus lacks nothing.”

The Holy Spirit is the individual inspiration (in spirit) that a believer needs to live the life of Jesus moment by moment.  Read Romans 8 and count the number of times there is mention of the Holy Spirit.  You will see that the perfect presence of the “Spirit of Christ” is the inspiration of the life of Christ in us.

Another phrase I teach to new believers is  “Jesus, you are welcome here.”  I encourage them to awaken each morning, put their hand over their heart and let these be the first words of every new day.   Helping us learn that He is indeed in us is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Why are these simple statements so important to spiritual growth?  When we focus on Jesus we are cooperating with the work of the Holy Spirit to make true and real in us everything Jesus is for us.

We must see Jesus clearly for spiritual formation to occur.  The Holy Spirit abides in you right now to perfect your knowledge of who Jesus is for you and in you.  As you grow in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ you experience what is called spiritual formation.  This is the work and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  No Holy Spirit means no inspiration.

From the first moment of every day cooperate with the Holy Spirit by saying “Jesus, you are welcome here”.   Remember that the goal of the Holy Spirit’s work in you is Jesus being everything He was meant to be in you and for you.  He can be by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit!
