Ask
“You do not have because you do not ask” James 4:2
We are often afflicted with a deep sense of lack. We walk through our days feeling as though we live with a constant deficit. To this sensation God says “You have not because you ask not.”
Ask. Could it be that simple? Could the key to destroying the deadening sense of lack be asking? It is.
Jesus said that the greatest in the Kingdom was like a little child. Little children ask. They do not put up with a sense of lack for long. They ask. They ask for what they need to just be a child. They are not filled with lust or longings to control. They just want to keep growing and going so they ask.
As believers we should want to do one thing which is glorify God. We are not here to simply survive or accumulate in comfort. We are here to love without stopping. We need to keep growing in love and going forward to love. To do this we need to simply ask.
Need patience? Ask
Need purity? Ask
Need joy? Ask
Need wisdom? Ask
Need courage? Ask
Need better tools and resources to love? Ask
Need forgiveness? Ask
If we have not is it because we do not ask or we ask to fulfill our lusts. We ask in order to find satisfaction in things that do not satisfy. We lust. We see something we think brings life and satisfaction and we ask God for that thing right now. He will not give it. It does not satisfy and He only deals in satisfaction.
When we ask so we can love, we receive exactly what we need to love. Stop trying so hard to obtain own your own. Ask. Asking moves the heart of God like a child’s voice moves the heart of a mom or dad. Ask.
James 4:2
You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.
James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
